MORE THAN 400 ATTEND
D.C. BAR TAX CONFERENCE
On January 10 and 11 the D.C. Bar Taxation Community
held its annual conference featuring nearly
30 breakout sessions on corporate, financial product,
partnership, compensation, and international
taxation as well as tax credits. Plenary programs
included a conversation with IRS Commissioner
Danny Werfel about the agency's priorities to
streamline operations, legislative updates on phasing
out the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, a discussion on
the implications of Moore v. United States, and a
global tax policy session focused on Pillar Two of
the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and
Development/G20 Inclusive Framework on Base
Erosion and Profit Shifting.

WOMAN LAWYER OF THE YEAR
The Women's Bar Association of the District of
Columbia (WBA) has recognized former D.C. Bar
president Ellen M. Jakovic as its 2024 Woman Lawyer
of the Year for her " tireless commitment to advancing
women lawyers in the profession. " Jakovic,
of counsel with the antitrust practice group at
Kirkland & Ellis LLP, will receive the award at WBA's
annual dinner on May 22 at the National Building
Museum.

SPRING TRAININGS
The D.C. Bar Pro Bono Center offers training to prepare
attorneys for pro bono service. Its spring docket
includes courses on bankruptcy, client-centered
lawyering, family law, and Social Security Disability
Insurance. Housing law trainings will cover eviction
defense, housing conditions, record sealing, rent
control, and more.
