D.C. Bar Budget for 2024-2025
O
n April 16, 2024, the D.C. Bar Board of
Governors approved the Bar's operating
budget for the fiscal year that begins July
1, 2024. As in prior years, the Bar's strategic plan
for the years 2021-20251
guided the development
of the organization's operating budget.
Current inflation and other economic conditions
were also factored into the budget development
process.
Bar leadership has delivered better-than-budgeted
results from operations, with surpluses
for the past six fiscal years and a surplus forecasted
for the current fiscal year. This achievement
reflects leadership's ability to adapt in the
face of unexpected challenges in the postpandemic
environment to maintain long-term
financial sustainability for our members.
For the 2024-2025 fiscal year, the Board of
Governors has budgeted a modest inflationary
increase in overall expenditures while continuing
to provide Bar members with a superior
level of support as well as outstanding programming
and services. The budget for 2024-
2025 reflects expected higher costs from
suppliers and enables the Bar to recruit and
retain its staff in a competitive labor market.
The Bar has resumed in-person activities and
will ensure compliance with the budget and
efficient use of license fee dollars.
The license fee for active members will be $341,
which reflects a $10 (3.0 percent) increase over
the past year. The license fee for inactive
members will be $212, which reflects a $6 (2.9
percent) increase over the past year. The license

fee for judicial members will be $154, which
reflects a $4 (2.7 percent) increase over the past
year. The current license fee ceiling approved
by the D.C. Court of Appeals for active members
is $380.
The expenditure budget for license fee-funded
activities is $41.4 million, an increase of 5.7 perFY2024-2025
