ALL EYES ON THE COURT
The marked conservative shift of the U.S. Supreme
Court provided the opening background for the
D.C. Bar's annual " Supreme Court Review and
Preview 2022 " on September 22, where experienced
practitioners also discussed prominent
religion, speech, affirmative action, and voting
regulations cases on its 2022-2023 docket. James
Romoser, editor of SCOTUSblog, moderated the
discussion with panelists John P. Elwood of Arnold
& Porter Kaye Scholer LLP; Elaine J. Goldenberg of
Munger, Tolles & Olson LLP; and William M. Jay of
Goodwin Procter LLP.

BAR MAGAZINE KEEPS
UP WINNING STREAK
For the third time in a row, Washington Lawyer won
best publication among large bars at the National
Association of Bar Executives (NABE) Communication
Section's 2022 Luminary Awards in Minneapolis,
Minnesota, on September 23. The magazine
also took home the best authored article award
for its feature story on legal deserts (November/
December 2021 issue).

AT ABA CONFERENCE
D.C. Bar President Ellen Jakovic delivered the
opening remarks at the ABA National Conference
for Lawyer Assistance Programs (LAPs) on September
20-22 in Washington, D.C., stressing the
importance of such services to attorney wellbeing.
Denise Perme, associate director of the
D.C. Bar LAP, and Tom Gilbertsen, chair of the
D.C. Bar Lawyer Assistance Committee, were part
of the panel that focused on the graying legal
profession.

PRACTICE 360° DRAWS
200+ ATTENDEES
On September 14 the D.C. Bar Practice Management
Advisory Service held its annual Practice
360°, addressing a wide array of issues that impact
solo and small firm practitioners. Drawing more
than 230 attendees, the virtual event featured
presentations on assessing opportunities and
ethical risks relating to new technologies, improving
one's negotiation skills, managing stress,
and reviewing digital tools to assist in practice
management.
