HOWARD RENAMES COURTROOM AFTER JUDGE KEITH
On February 14 Howard University School of Law Dean Danielle HolleyWalker (left) and Gilda Keith, daughter of the late Judge Damon J. Keith, led
the ribbon-cutting ceremony during the renaming of the law school's
moot courtroom in the judge's honor. Keith, a civil rights icon and one of
the longest-serving federal judges in the country, passed away in 2019. The
ceremony was part of the 33rd Annual Damon J. Keith Soul Food Luncheon,
held for the first time outside Detroit where Keith started the tradition
among family and friends.

Bar Foundation. Another former Bar president, Arnold & Porter senior
counsel Robert N. Weiner, was also honored by the ABA Section of Civil
Rights and Social Justice with its Father Robert F. Drinan Award for
Distinguished Service. The award was presented by section chair Wendy
K. Mariner.
BAR HOSTS BOOK TALK, ELECTION PROGRAMMING
Campaign expert Charles Spies led the February 19 CLE class "Election Year
2020: Understanding the Complex Rules Regulating Political Participation,"
an overview of the rules for advising clients or firm members who are
politically active. On March 4 the D.C. Bar Communities hosted a book talk
by Rebecca Boggs Roberts, author of Suffragists in Washington, D.C., which
details the 1913 women's suffrage parade attended by more than 8,000
marchers.

GEORGETOWN LAW WINS D.C. CUP MOOT COURT

Georgetown University Law Center students Victoria Brown and John
McGowan bested five other law school teams to win the 2020 D.C. Cup
Moot Court Competition on February 28, sponsored by the D.C. Bar
Communities. McGowan also won the Best Oralist Award. The team presented their winning arguments before D.C. Court of Appeals Senior
Judge John Steadman (left), D.C. Bar President Susan M. Hoffman, and
Solicitor General Loren L. AliKhan of the D.C. Office of the Attorney
General (right).

On January 16 the American Constitution Society hosted the discussion
"Revisiting Campaign Finance Regulations 10 Years After Citizens United" at
the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. Panelists included Jason
Abel, partner at Steptoe & Johnson LLP; Ciara Torres-Spelliscy, professor of
law at Stetson University; and Lee Goodman, partner at Wiley Rein LLP.

D.C. BAR CHAMPIONS STUDENTS
AT BANNEKER SCIENCE FAIR
The D.C. Bar Communities proudly continued their support of the
Benjamin Banneker Academic High School's annual science fair on
February 14, where several Bar members served as volunteer judges.
This year's science fair drew approximately 300 entries. The Bar's
Communities have been sponsoring the competition since 1996.

D.C. Bar leaders gathered in Austin, Texas, on February 12 to 17 for the ABA
Midyear Meeting where they celebrated with WilmerHale partner and
former D.C. Bar president Jamie Gorelick (sixth from right) for being recognized with the Outstanding Service Award by the Fellows of the American
