1 CCE FORUM TACKLES #METOO & MEDIA
On November 19 the Council for Court Excellence hosted the panel
discussion Journalism Isn't Justice - Examining Both Roles in the Era
of #MeToo at the offices of Arent Fox LLP. The program delved into the
origins of the MeToo movement, the role of women who shared their
stories, and coverage by the media. Panelists included Tom Clare of
Clare Locke LLP; Kalea Clark, deputy general counsel for The Washington
Post; Judge Royce Lamberth of the U.S. District Court for the District of
Columbia; Dahlia Lithwick, Slate senior editor; Emily Martin, vice president
for education and workplace justice at the National Women's Law Center;
and Jane Mayer, investigative journalist and chief Washington correspondent at The New Yorker.

6 OSC'S KERNER HONORED AT COMMUNITIES EVENT
On December 5 the D.C. Bar Labor and Employment Law Community
held its holiday reception featuring Henry Kerner, special counsel for
the U.S. Office of Special Counsel. Kerner discussed some of his initiatives
since he assumed office at OSC in 2017, including launching a new
website, streamlining services, and addressing the case backlog. For his
service, the Labor and Employment Law Community presented him
with a certificate of appreciation.

WCL HONORS OUTSTANDING ATTORNEYS

On December 5 the Washington Council of Lawyers (WCL) held its 2019
Awards Ceremony at Arnold & Porter LLP, recognizing the outstanding
contributions of lawyers in pro bono and public interest work. Pictured are

BADC HOLDS 148TH ANNUAL BANQUET

On December 7 the Bar Association of the District of Columbia (BADC)
held its 148th Annual Banquet and Awards Gala, where it honored outstanding individuals in the legal field, including former D.C. Bar president
Robert Weinberg, who was presented with the President's Distinguished
Career Award. Weinberg (second from left) is pictured with BADC
President Dominic G. Vorv, D.C. Bar President Susan M. Hoffman, and
BADC President-Elect Kevin Judd. Other attendees included George
Washington University Law School Associate Dean Alfreda Robinson,
attorney Edward Hill, National Bar Association Executive Director Emeritus
John Crump, BADC Foundation President Keith W. Watters, and treasurer
Christopher G. Hoge.

ACCESS TO JUSTICE COMMISSION
RELEASES NEW REPORT

On December 3 members of the legal community joined the D.C. Access
to Justice Commission at DLA Piper LLP in celebrating the release of
its anticipated report, "Delivering Justice: Addressing Civil Legal Needs
in the District of Columbia." Among those in attendance were Rhonda
Cunningham Holmes, executive director of the Legal Counsel for the
Elderly, and Naznin Saifi, executive director of the Asian Pacific American
Legal Resource Center.

HISPANIC BAR INSTALLS NEW OFFICERS

On January 15, 2020, the Hispanic Bar Association of the District
of Columbia held its annual meeting and elections at the law firm
Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson LLP. Attendees included D.C.
Superior Court Magistrate Judge Kenia Seoane López, D.C. Office of
Administrative Hearings Administrative Law Judge Paul B. Handy, and
more than 50 members of the Washington, D.C., legal community.
