BAR HOLDS CANDIDATE FORUM
& OPEN HOUSE AT NEW HQ

On May 1 the D.C. Bar held its 2019 Candidate Forum, presenting the nominees
for Bar leadership positions for the 2019-2020 term. President-elect candidates
Geoffrey M. Klineberg of Kellogg, Hansen, Todd, Figel & Frederick, P.L.L.C. and
Charles C. Lemley of Wiley Rein LLP spoke about their priorities and vision for
the Bar if elected. The Bar also opened its doors for members to explore its
new, state-of-the-art headquarters.

D.C. CIRCUIT JUDGES TRAVEL
TO GEORGETOWN TO HEAR CASES

On March 21 Georgetown University Law Center hosted oral arguments of
the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit. From left, Judge
Sri Srinivasan, Chief Judge Merrick B. Garland, and Judge A. Raymond
Randolph heard two cases in the law school's Hart Auditorium. Pictured with
the judges is Georgetown Law Dean William M. Treanor. Known as "circuit
riding," D.C. Circuit judges travel to the six area law schools to educate
students about the court.

ADVOCATING FOR TENANTS

On April 4 the D.C. Courts' Court Navigator Office hosted its first ever pop-up
event in collaboration with the Office of the Tenant Advocate (OTA), offering
pro se litigants an opportunity to ask an attorney questions regarding landlord-
tenant rights and to learn more about free workshops and information.
Stephen Dudek, OTA education and outreach coordinator and attorney advisor,
talks with one of the 22 clients served at the event.

APABA-DC EXPLORES MASSIE
CASES WITH TRIAL REENACTMENT

On April 17 the Asian Pacific American Bar Association of the Greater
Washington, D.C. Area and Steptoe & Johnson LLP hosted a trial reenactment of the Massie cases at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
The reenactment featured a distinguished cast of judges, civil rights leaders,
and community speakers, including (from left) Stuart Ishimaru, former assistant director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau; retired Judge
Gerald Bruce Lee of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia;
and Magistrate Judge Kenia Seoane López of the D.C. Superior Court. D.C.
Court of Appeals Chief Judge Anna Blackburne-Rigsby delivered the
opening remarks.
