THE D.C. BAR REGULATION COUNSEL Helping Members Meet the Highest Ethical Standards By Jeffery Leon F rom advising attorneys on business skills for better practice management to providing counseling for mental health issues and substance abuse, the D.C. Bar's Department of Regulation Counsel works to ensure that Bar members practice law ethically and avoid disciplinary issues. The programs are confidential, and all of the Regulation Counsel's services are free or available at low cost to Bar members and their former clients. Driven by trained attorney volunteers, nonlawyer volunteers, and D.C. Bar staff - subject-matter experts who are lawyers or licensed independent clinical social workers - Regulation Counsel programs deliver on the Bar's mission to help members meet their ethical obligations and improve their practices, and, in so doing, uphold the integrity of the legal profession and protect the public. iStock
