CELEBRATE WITH US

Join the D.C. Bar on June 25 for its two signature
events marking the end of its fiscal year and
celebrating its new leadership. The Celebration
of Leadership Dinner and Awards Ceremony is the
Bar's premier annual gala featuring the swearing-in
ceremony of incoming D.C. Bar President Geoffrey
M. Klineberg. The Presidents Reception, hosted by
past presidents of the Bar, also will honor Klineberg
and raise funds in support of the D.C. Bar Pro Bono
Center.

BAR SEEKS CANDIDATES
FOR 2020 ELECTIONS
The D.C. Bar is now accepting nominations from
members wishing to be candidates in its 2020
elections. Open positions include president-elect,
secretary, and treasurer, as well as vacancies on the
Bar's Board of Governors. The deadline for receipt
of nominations is January 24.

The loss of respected attorney Barbara
Whiting-Wright, who passed away on
November 7, had an especially strong impact
on the numerous African American women
lawyers she counseled and championed over
the last 40 years as their confidante and
mentor. Whiting-Wright, 83, was the first black
woman to serve as customs law specialist at
the U.S. Customs Service, where she began her
legal career in 1964 after graduating from
Howard University Law School as the only
woman in her class. In 1974, Whiting-Wright
cofounded and served as the first president of
the pioneering Greater Washington
Area Chapter, Women Lawyers Division,
of the National Bar Association.
