The Superior Court of the District of Columbia and the D.C. Child and Family
Services Agency hosted the 32nd Annual D.C. Adoption Day on November 17
at the H. Carl Moultrie Courthouse. The 2018 celebration culminated in the
adoption of 31 children, with 22 new families being formalized. D.C. Superior
Court Chief Judge Robert E. Morin took part in the occasion, and D.C. Mayor
Muriel Bowser shared her story of adopting her daughter, Miranda.

ABOUT D.C. DISCIPLINE SYSTEM
Representatives from the Shanghai Municipal Human Resources and Social
Security Bureau, Division of Professionals Management, met with D.C. Bar
leaders to discuss legal ethics and the attorney discipline system in the District
of Columbia. In attendance from the Bar were (from right to left, front row)
Chief Programs Officer Darrin Sobin, Senior Legal Ethics Counsel Saul Singer,
D.C. Board on Professional Responsibility Executive Attorney James T. Phalen,
and D.C. Bar President Esther Lim. Lim accepted a watercolor painting from
the visitors.
The National Veterans Legal Services Program (NVLSP) hosted its 10th Annual
Benefit Reception on November 8. The 2018 event was themed "Honoring
Women Veterans - Leading From the Front," and raised more than $600,000
to support pro bono advocacy for veterans and their families. Sheila Cheston of
Northrop Grumman Corporation accepted an award on behalf of her company,
which was recognized for its exemplary leadership among U.S. corporations on
behalf of veterans, service members, and military families. Chris Antoniou of
Verizon Partner Solutions presented the award to Cheston. Members of NVLSP's
litigation team also attended the event.
