Disciplinary Actions Taken by the
District of Columbia Court of
Appeals
Original Matters
In re Robert Geoffrey Broderick. Bar No.
1004403. October 26, 2017. The D.C.
Court of Appeals disbarred Broderick
by consent, effective immediately.
In re Linda K. Hanten. Bar No. 384687.
October 26, 2017. The D.C. Court of
Appeals disbarred Hanten by consent,
effective immediately.
In re Robert W. Mance III. Bar No.
285379. October 26, 2017. The D.C.
Court of Appeals granted Mance's
petition for reinstatement, subject to
the following conditions: (1) that he not
engage in solo practice (a restriction
that, during oral argument, he indicated a willingness to accept) for a
period of three years; (2) that, within
six months before resuming the solo
practice of law, he attend law practice
management training focused on
computer-based case management
and law firm financial management;
and (3) that, at least 60 days before
resuming the solo practice of law, he
inform the executive attorney of the
Board on Professional Responsibility of
his intent to do so, to facilitate appointment of a practice monitor who will
monitor Mance's solo practice for one
year after he resumes solo practice and
who shall report to the executive
attorney every three months during
that period.
In re James R. J. Scheltema. Bar No.
476105. October 26, 2017. The D.C.
Court of Appeals disbarred Scheltema
by consent, effective immediately.
In re Alecia Schmuhl. Bar No. 994974.
October 26, 2017. The D.C. Court of
Appeals disbarred Schmuhl by consent,
effective immediately.
In re Donald B. Terrell. Bar No. 416562.
October 26, 2017. The D.C. Court of
Appeals disbarred Terrell by consent,
effective immediately.
In re Ricardo Vidal. Bar No. 486593.
October 26, 2017. The D.C. Court of
Appeals disbarred Vidal by consent,
effective October 31, 2017.
Reciprocal Matters
In re William P. Corbett Jr. Bar No.
445800. October 19, 2017. In a reciprocal
matter from Massachusetts, the D.C.
Court of Appeals imposed identical
reciprocal discipline and disbarred
Corbett. In Massachusetts, Corbett was
found to have intentionally converted
client funds for his own use.
In re Stephen R. Jones. Bar No. 358451.
October 19, 2017. In a reciprocal matter
from Maryland, the D.C. Court of
Appeals imposed functionally equivalent reciprocal discipline and indefinitely suspended Jones, nunc pro tunc
to August 21, 2017, with reinstatement
subject to a fitness requirement and
the right to petition for reinstatement
after five years or when reinstated in
the state of Maryland, whichever
occurs first. In Maryland, Jones
admitted that he had been convicted
of second-degree assault.
In re Kimberly L. Marshall. Bar No.
460886. October 12, 2017. In a reciprocal matter from Virginia, the D.C.
Court of Appeals imposed reciprocal
discipline and indefinitely suspended
Marshall due to a disability pursuant
to D.C. Bar R. XI, § 13.
Interim Suspensions Issued by the
District of Columbia Court of
Appeals
In re William F. Baroni Jr. Bar No. 468687.
October 10, 2017. Baroni was suspended on an interim basis based
upon his criminal conviction in the
United States District Court for the
District of New Jersey.
In re Jeff Godfrey. Bar No. 989724.
October 10, 2017. Godfrey was suspended on an interim basis based
upon discipline imposed in West
Virginia.
In re Laurence F. Johnson. Bar No.
934398. October 10, 2017. Johnson was
suspended on an interim basis based
upon discipline imposed in Maryland.
In re Cynthia S. Malyszek. Bar No.
396875. October 26, 2017. Malyszek was
suspended on an interim basis
pursuant to D.C. Bar R. XI, § 9(g),
pending final action on the Board on
Professional Responsibility's June 16,
2017, recommendation of disbarment.
In re Sean Gardner Saxon. Bar No.
481348. October 10, 2017. Saxon was
suspended on an interim basis based
upon discipline imposed in Colorado.
In re Randy McRae. Bar No. 430494.
October 26, 2017. In a reciprocal matter
from the United States District Court for
the District of Maryland, the D.C. Court
of Appeals imposed identical reciprocal
discipline and disbarred McRae, nunc
pro tunc to October 13, 2017. McRae
was found to have engaged in theft
and to have been ineligible for admission to the Maryland District Court
because he failed to maintain a principal office in a jurisdiction where he
was admitted to practice.
In re Jeffrey M. Silow. Bar No. 211847.
October 10, 2017. Silow was suspended
on an interim basis based upon discipline imposed in Pennsylvania.
In re Wade A. Robertson. Bar No.
495427. October 26, 2017. In a reciprocal
matter from California, the D.C. Court of
Appeals imposed identical reciprocal
discipline and disbarred Robertson,
nunc pro tunc to December 12, 2013.
Robertson was found to have
defrauded his elderly client. In addition
to the normal factors, Robertson's
reinstatement is also conditioned on
satisfaction of the $3.5 million-plusinterest restitution ordered in California.

Other Jurisdictions
In re Leslie D. Silverman. Bar No. 448188.
October 26, 2017. Silverman was suspended on an interim basis pursuant to
D.C. Bar R. XI, § 9(g), pending final
action on the Board on Professional
Responsibility's May 19, 2017, recommendation of a three-year suspension
with fitness.
In accordance with D.C. Bar Rule XI, §
11(c), the D.C. Court of Appeals has
ordered public notice of the following
nonsuspensory and nonprobationary
disciplinary sanctions imposed on D.C.
attorneys by other jurisdictions. To

In re Alex J. Brown. Bar No. 466580. On
September 27, 2017, the Maryland
Court of Appeals reprimanded Brown
by consent.
Informal Admonitions Issued by
the Office of Disciplinary Counsel
In re Donald Schlemmer. Bar No.
414582. October 6, 2017. Disciplinary
Counsel issued Schlemmer an informal
admonition. Schlemmer's written
retainer agreement improperly stated
that the flat fee charged for his legal
services in an immigration matter was
non-refundable and earned upon
receipt Rule 1.5(a).

Board on Professional
Responsibility
Original Matters
In re William B. Haseltine. Bar No.
472906. October 12, 2017. The Board on
Professional Responsibility recommends that the D.C. Court of Appeals
suspend Haseltine for 18 months with
fitness. Haseltine violated rules pertaining to commingling and failure to
keep complete records of the transactions in his trust account and dishonesty, deceit, or misrepresentation
arising from his misuse of his attorney
trust account and his efforts to conceal
his assets from the Internal Revenue
Service. Rules 1.15(a) and 8.4(c).
