attorneys say. While everyone works long hours
and faces high levels of stress, a balanced life
outside of work - with interests, friends, and
families - can offset the pressures.
For the Ehrlichs, their passion for exercise
and fitness extends to their vacation activities
(mountain biking and snowboarding) and is
reflected in their children's interests (one of
them was recently recruited by the University
of Michigan for rowing). When they're not tearing
up the gym or the slopes, the two are fashioning
mixtapes for their yoga and spinning classes.
"Music plays a big role in both [our] yoga and
spinning classes," Stacy Ehrlich says. "We create
those playlists together. The teaching is not only
physically challenging, but also mentally challenging in coming up with all the sequences.
I feel like the teaching keeps me sharp and ready
for my work. I learn new things every day at work,
and I'm more open to it because of my teaching."
For the Ehrlichs, the benefits of teaching classes
at the local gym have gone far beyond good
health and a strong core. For Mark Ehrlich, the
years of exercise classes have become an essential
element of his work life. He regularly employs
exercise routines to refresh after long airplane
trips or to conquer jet lag when arriving at a
distant location.

"We take each other's classes," he says. "We don't
teach a class together anymore. For a long time,
it was always Mark and Stacy. Everyone knew us
as a pair. The fact that we both do it has made it
possible to be very committed to being healthy
and trying to improve ourselves mentally and
physically."

"We take each other's classes . . . The fact
that we both do it has made it possible
to be very committed to being healthy
and trying to improve ourselves
mentally and physically."

Workplace satisfaction is essential in designing
a life where work and home life complement
each other, experts say. By avoiding burnout and
keeping stress in check, attorneys are more likely to
find fulfillment inside and outside their workplaces.
No easy task, for sure. Yet it is one that promises to
deliver improvements in day-to-day stress levels,
making work more enjoyable, and, ultimately,
more worthwhile.
