MEDIA BYTES

Where the law intersects with culture & lifestyle

By Jeffery Leon and Tracy Schorn

THE WAYBACK MACHINE
Looking for something? Chances are you'll find it on the Wayback Machine,
aka the Internet Archive, a "digital library of Internet sites and other cultural
artifacts in digital form." Yes, apparently everything lives online - the site
has preserved 279 billion web pages. But that's not all. Like an actual library,
it provides free access to researchers, historians, and the public with 11 million
books, 4 million audio recordings (including 160,000 live concerts), 3 million
videos, and more than 100,000 software programs. You could spend several
lifetimes just searching the virtual stacks. Enjoy!

SUPREME COURT HISTORY
The Oyez Project is a media archive sponsored by Justia, the Legal
Information Institute at Cornell Law School, and the Chicago-Kent College of
Law, which boasts a trove of audio recordings taken in the U.S. Supreme Court
going back to 1955. In addition to sound bites, the archive provides a wealth
of information on cases, including opinion summaries, case descriptions and
conclusions, and voting records of Supreme Court justices. The archive also
has biographies of each justice, dating to the formation of the United States.
