s the lazy days of summer
are replaced by jam-packed
fall schedules, we offer a look at
trends in education for students
of all ages.
INMATES & CLASSMATES
While many college graduates crossed the stage
this May, few had a college experience quite like the
alumni of the Bard Prison Initiative. Founded in
2001, BPI gives inmates at six prisons in New York
State the opportunity to earn a degree from Bard
College, empowering them to build new lives both
in and out of prison.
A CHANGE IN CAMPUS RECRUITING
Law firms looking to recruit summer associates at
Duke, Georgetown, Yale, and other top law schools
will have to disclose their workplace harassment
policies if they wish to recruit on campus. Deans
from these schools are pushing back against firms
that require associates to sign nondisclosure
or arbitration agreements as a condition of
employment.
STRIVING FOR GLOBAL EFFICIENCY
Stanford Law School brings together lawyers,
entrepreneurs, researchers, and techies through
its CodeX program, designed to advance legal
technology and increase legal efficiency and
access around the world.

EDUCATIONAL FUNDING, A CIVIL RIGHT
In a world where more than 260 million children are
without schools, a new initiative led by former UK
Prime Minister Gordon Brown plans to address the
issue as "the civil rights struggle of our time." With
support from the United Nations, the International
Finance Facility for Education will fund education
expansion with guaranteed loans, in a model similar
to that used successfully by global immunization
campaigns.
