2019 BAR TAX CONFERENCE
GATHERS D.C.'S TOP EXPERTS

The D.C. Bar Taxation Community successfully hosted its 2019 Tax Legislative
and Regulatory Update Conference on January 29, drawing more than 250 tax
professionals from private firms, think tanks, academia, the U.S. Treasury, and
the Internal Revenue Service. D.C. Bar Communities Director Candace SmithTucker addressed participants during one of the day's breakout sessions.

D.C. BAR CONTINUES SUPPORT
FOR BANNEKER SCIENCE FAIR

The D.C. Bar Intellectual Property Law Community was once again a proud
sponsor of the Annual Benjamin Banneker Academic High School Science Fair,
held February 15. The Bar's Communities has been cosponsoring the event
since 1996. This year's fair drew more than 350 participants and awarded 47
prizes across various categories.

AU LAW STUDENTS WIN
2019 MOOT COURT CUP

On March 1 the D.C. Bar Communities held its 2019 D.C. Cup Moot Court
Competition, where teams of students from the District's six law schools
argued cases in three rounds before a panel of volunteer judges. The annual
competition allows law students to hone both their oral advocacy and briefwriting skills. Taking home the top prize this year were Elizabeth Davis and
Robert Lackey of American University Washington College of Law, pictured

HBA-DC INSTALLS NEW LEADERS

The Hispanic Bar Association of the District of Columbia (HBA-DC) held its
annual meeting and elections on January 10, installing Leila Levi (third from
right), attorney-advisor at the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Office of the
General Counsel, as the organization's 42nd president. Levi and presidentelect Ruben Reyna (left) celebrated the event with former HBA-DC presidents
Juan Sempertegui, Bill Rivera, Judge Kenia Lopez, Jaime Areizago-Soto, and
Richard Rodriguez.

HIGH TEA WITH THE WBA

The Communications Law Forum of the Women's Bar Association of the District
of Columbia hosted its annual Holiday Tea on December 11 at the St. Regis
Hotel, featuring Rebecca Kelly Slaughter, commissioner of the Federal Trade
