jurisdictions like Washington State, which allows licensed nonlawyers to help
individuals with legal issues (just as nurse practitioners have reduced the cost of
health care, licensed legal workers could reduce the cost of justice); and (5) we
may want to include more than just lawyers in our efforts to improve our legal
system so that we can find good solutions and have enough political force to
bring about change.

to find ways to make justice more of a reality for more people.
For an expanded interview with Borbely on other ways the legal profession could
increase tenants' access to justice and help them better navigate the complexities of
landlord and tenant court, visit dcbar.org.
