MEMBER SPOTLIGHT SHA-SHANA N.L. CRICHTON Assistant Professor of Lawyering Skills, Director of Legal Writing Program Howard University School of Law I think advance planning is the key to keeping away stress. . . . It is inevitable that the students will have multiple assignments due, chapters to read for class, mandatory law school activities, and, of course, the demands of daily living. The students unanimously agree that when they feel overwhelmed, they forgo sleep or they try to sleep no more than three to four hours per night. I remind them that sleep is important, and to forgo sleep is counterproductive because a lack of sleep causes health issues and impairs the cognitive process.
