Quadrino points to her background as a member of the Bar's Budget
Committee as inspiration for serving as president-elect, saying it "has provided
a great education on where the Bar operates efficiently and where more work
is needed."
Additionally, Quadrino cites as an asset her programming experience at the
ABA, where she developed and cochaired a full-day CLE conference, as well
as chaired a 600-person committee. "It requires frequent outreach to your
members to help them grow their own practices through networking,
publishing, and speaking. I understand first-hand the type of volunteer
work that is involved at our section level, and how important that is to our
members and to the overall success of the Bar," she says.
Ensuring that the Bar remains a constant resource to attorneys at all stages in
their careers is a key priority for Quadrino, "whether [members] are developing
and honing their skill sets, or transitioning to new positions in government or
the private sector, as so many Washington-area lawyers do."
She says the Bar's Lawyer Assistance Program is one such critical resource.
"We should be talking about substance abuse trends in our profession and
about how the Bar can help our colleagues wrestling with this challenge."
Quadrino stresses the important role a leader plays in "shaping and communicating an organization's values and culture." "I have been fortunate to work
closely with managing partners and other firm leaders at Steptoe on both
client work and firm administrative issues, and I have seen what a positive
impact strong leadership makes. I would be honored to serve the D.C. Bar
in this way."

LEAH M. QUADRINO
Leah M. Quadrino is an of counsel commercial litigator at Steptoe & Johnson
LLP, where she focuses on complex commercial disputes, insurance and
reinsurance dispute resolution, and professional liability defense. Quadrino also
manages an active pro bono practice, representing immigrants, refugees, and
homeless persons, as well as victims of sex trafficking, employment discrimination, and excessive force.
Quadrino is an elected member of the D.C. Bar Board of Governors and serves
on the Budget Committee. She is a past chair of the American Bar Association's
(ABA) Tort Trial and Insurance Practice Section's Committee on Excess, Surplus
Lines and Reinsurance.
If elected, Quadrino would work to grow the Bar's voluntary member base and
strengthen access to justice initiatives with the D.C. Bar Pro Bono Center. "There
is a steadily growing need for pro bono services. December 2016 saw the
largest turnout of clients seeking assistance at the Pro Bono Center's Saturday
clinics than any prior December on record," she says. Quadrino also would seek
to improve access to justice funding and increase volunteer hours.
Quadrino wants to inspire younger Bar members about the rewarding nature
of pro bono work early in their careers. "I hope to generate more contact with
younger members of the Bar to introduce them to the amazing pro bono
opportunities that are available," she says.
Quadrino also is looking to engage more seasoned members of the Bar. "We
need to tap into the impressive energy that we're seeing right now at all levels
of our profession and be sure that people who want to help know how to
become involved."
Technology can help drive those efforts, says Quadrino, adding that "members
want improved connectivity" to enhance their ability to network online with
one another. "Offering members a more fluid platform on which to communicate with each other is essential" for both pro bono work and general programming, she says.

A native Washingtonian, Quadrino received her law degree from Fordham
University School of Law and her undergraduate degree from Yale University.
