SMALL FIRMS GET TIPS FOR
SUCCESS AT PRACTICE 360°

On May 17 more than 100 attorneys attended Practice 360°: A Day for Lawyers
and Law Firms to get the latest tips and tools to assist with management,
marketing, cybersecurity, wellness, and more. This signature event, hosted
by the D.C. Bar Practice Management Advisory Service, featured more than
20 seminars and an exhibit hall with Bar partners. Jack Newton, CEO of Clio,
provided the Legal Trends Report during the luncheon session, exploring
how data can be utilized to drive better decisions.

Emily Bolles and Ellis Butler, associate and partner, respectively, at Hunton
Andrews Kurth LLP, and V. Gerard Comizio, a partner at Fried, Frank, Harris,
Shriver & Jacobson LLP, rehearse with the Unnamed Party band at 7DrumCity
in preparation for the 16th annual Banding Together on June 20. The annual
battle of the law firm bands raises funds for Gifts for the Homeless, an allvolunteer nonprofit that runs the largest clothing drive in the District
of Columbia to help the homeless.

PIERCE, LICHTMAN RECEIVE
SERVANT OF JUSTICE AWARDS

The Legal Aid Society of the District of Columbia honored Anthony Pierce,
partner in charge of the D.C. office of Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP, and
Judith Lichtman of the National Partnership for Women & Families at Legal Aid's
30th annual Servant of Justice Awards Dinner on April 25. Pierce was honored
for his pro bono work and two decades of service on Legal Aid's board of directors, while Lichtman was recognized for her service in furthering human rights,
including her role in the passage of the Pregnancy Discrimination Act and the
Family Medical Leave Act. The dinner raised more than $1.5 million for access to
justice initiatives in the District.

FIRMS RAISE $6M FOR LEGAL AID

On May 15 the D.C. Access to Justice Commission hosted its Raising the Bar
in D.C. Campaign breakfast, honoring 43 firms that in total contributed nearly
$6 million toward organizations serving low-income District residents in 2018.
Donating a benchmark percentage of their D.C. office revenue, 29 firms
contributed at the platinum level (.11 percent), 8 firms at the gold level (.09
percent), and 6 at the silver level (.075 percent). Commission Chair Peter
Edelman addressed attendees at the event, which also featured D.C. Court
of Appeals Chief Judge Anna Blackburne-Rigsby and D.C. Councilmember
Charles Allen.

D.C. PRESS ROUNDTABLE
COVERS HOT TOPICS

The D.C. Bar's District of Columbia Affairs Community hosted its 11th annual
Meet the Press event on May 16, featuring prominent members of the D.C.
press corps. The panelists covered current events and hot topics in the
District, including statehood, gentrification, affordable housing, and the
future of the city. Speakers included (from left) Cuneyt Dil of DC Line, Tom
Sherwood of Washington City Paper, Denise Rolark Barnes of the Washington
Informer, and Petula Dvorak and Peter Jamison of the Washington Post.
