KUGEL COOK-OFF RAISES 100K
TO SUPPORT TZEDEK DC

More than 300 members of the local legal community attended Tzedek DC's
Eat Well, Do Justice! 2017 Celebrity Chef Kugel Cook-Off on September 25 to
raise awareness about the justice gap facing D.C. residents with debt-related
issues. Among those who took part in the fundraiser as competitors and judges
were cookbook author Joan Nathan; Chef Alex Levin, who won the cook-off;
journalist David Gregory (back row); former D.C. Bar president Marna Tucker;
chefs Mike Friedman (back row), Kyle Bailey, and Danny Lee; and D.C. Bar
Director of Leadership and Strategic Development Annamaria Steward.
The event raised more than $100,000 toward Tzedek DC's mission. Chef Bailey
is shown preparing his table, while Chef Friedman hands out samples of
his kugel.

PANEL DISCUSSES D.C.'S
CHANGING LEGAL LANDSCAPE

The Washington Business Journal and the Antonin Scalia Law School at George
Mason University hosted "The Business of Law" on October 12, a panel discussion on D.C.'s changing legal landscape. Panelists included James MacGregor
of the Washington Business Journal (moderator); John Niehoff, partner at Baker
Tilly LLP; Joshua D. Wright, professor at the Antonin Scalia Law School; Elizabeth
Cooper, international director of Jones Lang LaSalle Brokerage, Inc.; and Barry
F. Levin, managing partner at Saul Ewing Arnstein & Lehr LLP.

LAWYERS HAVE HEART STARTS
2018 RACE CAMPAIGN

On October 11 Lawyers Have Heart hosted a kickoff event for its 2018
10K/5K run, which aims to raise $1.2 million in support of the American Heart
Association. Taking part in the kickoff were Emily Wang Murphy of Thompson
Coburn LLP, Soula Antoniou of the AHA, Eric Reicin of MorganFranklin
Consulting, and Jessica George of Akin Gump LLP. Wang Murphy, along
with Thompson Coburn's Tony Anderson and Karen Creel, unveil a list of race
sponsors. Wang Murphy and Reicin also serve as cochairs of Lawyers Have
Heart's executive leadership team. The 2018 race will be held June 9.

MENTAL HEALTH COURT
CELEBRATES 10 YEARS

The Mental Health Community Court celebrated its 10-year anniversary with an
event on September 29. The court, which has served nearly 4,000 defendants
over the past decade, celebrated with its community partners and key stakeholders who have made the court a success to reduce crime and improve
public safety, and to connect defendants to community mental health
programs. Joining the celebration were Cleonia Terry of the Mental Health
Community Court; D.C. Superior Court Chief Judge Robert Morin; Susan Carroll,
a Mental Health Community Court graduate; Judge Heidi Pasichow, Mental
Health Community Court presiding judge; and Doreen Gentzler, NBC4 news
anchor and emcee of the event.

NAPABA INSTALLS NEW
BOARD MEMBERS

On September 28 members of the Filipino American community and the
National Asian Pacific American Bar Association celebrated the installation of
the second Board of Governors of the Filipino American Lawyers Association
of Washington, D.C.
